Dear Colleagues,

The Scientific Program Committee of the 20th National Conference of Education Science and its organizers warmly welcome everyone interested. We are cordially inviting you on behalf of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and its Scientific Committee on Pedagogy to attend and participate in our 20th annual conference, which has become a respected tradition in the field. The title of the conference is:

The central theme on 20th National Conference of Education Science is the role of the family in the world of education and the realization of education in the family.

In the second decade of the 21st century, the regular examination of institutional educational activity is an inevitable task for the representatives of educational sciences. The social contribution of knowledge transfer, competence development, the transmission of values and norms and the social contribution of disseminating results is unquestionable in public education institutions, in higher education, in adult education and adult training.

The pedagogical relevance of informal education, especially in the family, is also indisputable since the family is the primary medium of socialization, which underpins and accompanies the individual through his or her academic career. The structure, the interpretation of its roles, the subculture, the relationship with the school, the practices that help (or even hinder) practices and the social vision of the optimal functioning of family education is undergoing constant change. It is certainly worth looking at how the institution of the family fits into the modern world, what new challenges address them and how they respond to them.

Among the corners of the conference, which are the school, the family, the education system, there will be an opportunity to examine the education in the family and school and also the school teaching-learning process and family learning. An important question is how the institutional system of education – from preschool to higher education – is able to cooperate with the family or, where appropriate, which difficulties hinder their productive cooperation.

As a result of the social changes in the first two decades of the 21st century, new challenges have emerged in the practice of family and institutional education. Instead of spontaneous reflexes, these require thoughtful, scientific-quality reflections and professional responses based on scientific facts. For our 20th jubilee conference, we are primarily looking for researchers who will explore the classic and hitherto little studied aspects of the interrelationship between institutional and family education. In addition, we encourage all members of our professional community to share their new research findings and participate in valuable professional discourses!

Chair of the conference

  • In the case of a thematic presentation and poster, the first author can upload the professional material
  • Submitting professional materials – irrespective of their type and number of authors – will only be successful (and they will only be reviewed) if all the authors register on the conference website (Registration).
  • A participant can be indicated as first author not more than two times, additionally, he/she can act as the Chair of one symposium, as well as the Discussant in one symposium.
  • A symposium, a thematic/paper presentation or a poster can have maximum five authors.

  • The Chair of the symposium is responsible for its organisation, moderation, as well as inviting a Discussant.
  • A symposium consists of a 90-minute conference session organised by the submitters, it includes 4 or 5 presentations per session plus a Discussant, who may evaluate the symposium and raises questions that help to promote discussion and reflection.
  • The Chair is responsible for submitting the symposium summary and abstracts for all papers linked to it. The Chair is the only one to receive the reviewers’ assessment, and must inform all contributors about the evaluation.

Thematic presentation

Thematic presentations are presented thematic sections organised by the Scientific Programme Committee. A session is 90-minutes long and includes 4 or 5 presentations, followed by questions and discussion which are moderated by a Chairperson assigned by the Scientific Programme Committee.

The posters will be presented by the participants in a poster section organized by the Scientific Program Committee. A0 (841 mm x 1189 mm) poster can be placed on the stands. The poster section includes a one-to-one presentation of the posters, for a maximum of 6 minutes, as well as questions of the interested people and participants and the answers. The poster section will be chaired by the section president requested by the Scientific Program Committee.

All submitted abstracts are assessed by at least two independent reviewers invited by the Scientific Programme Committee. The conference operates a system of double-blind peer review. The review process is confidential: reviewers do not know who the author(s) of the assessed abstracts is/are, the authors do not know the reviewers.

Authors of thematic/paper presentations and posters, as well as the Chairs of the symposia, are informed of acceptance or rejection of the abstracts along with the reasoned opinion of reviewers. However, only the list of accepted papers, symposia and posters is made available publicly.

The review process is the same for papers, posters and symposia, however, the review criteria are different for theoretical and empirical papers (authors can name the category on submission), as well as for symposia summaries.

Theoretical papers

  • Theoretical framework and embeddedness
  • Criteria for analysis, their relevance
  • Originality
  • General quality, structure, style
  • Theoretical and practical significance

Empirical papers

  • Theoretical embeddedness
  • Aim, research questions, hypotheses, methods
  • Presentation and interpretation of results
  • General quality, structure, style
  • Theoretical and practical significance

Symposium summary

  • Aims
  • Coherence
  • General quality, structure, style
  • Theoretical and practical significance

Proposals in each category are scored by the reviewers on a 5-point scale while brief written assessments are also provided. If the difference between the total scores of the two reviewers is 10 points or more, the Scientific Programme Committee invites a third reviewer to review the paper.

Taking full account of the reviewers’ assessment, the final decision is made by the Scientific Programme Committee by considering the threshold for theoretical and empirical papers.

Possible decisions are as follows: (1) accepted; (2) rejected; (3) reclassified.

In case of rejection, there is no opportunity to correct and re-submit the proposal.

Reclassification means that the symposium presentation is offered to be included in the programme as a thematic/paper presentation, or a thematic/paper presentation as a poster. In case of reclassification, the author has the opportunity to decide (onk2020@onk.hu) whether they intend to present their paper in the suggested format. The authors concerned will be informed about the proposed format and the deadline along with the review results.

Acceptance of the proposal does not automatically imply publication of the abstract in the conference proceedings. This only occurs if the registration fee is settled before the indicated deadline.

Shortly after submitting your registration form (within a couple of hours), you will receive n email at the email address you provided.

If you do not receive the letter in a few hours, please send a message to the organizing committee's email address: onk2020@unideb.hu.
